The story of "Ian's African Lion Safari"
A couple of summers ago my wife and I took our two grandsons to African Lion Safari, a wild game park west of Toronto. It was just at the beginning of September and most kids were back in in school and we had pretty much the run of the place. Monkeys rhinos, lions, giraffes. baboons, monkeys, gazelles, elephants, and ostriches, we saw them all and much more. We had a great day.
About a year passed and my youngest grandson Ian started to take an interest in grampa's automata shop. He thought he might like to make an automata. I suggested something with animals since they might be simpler and faster to make. He decided the animals at the African Lion Safari park would be good, and so it was. We worked on it together in little bits, as much as his attention span could handle at one time , and mommy helped him paint the animals.
He is quite proud of his project and keeps it in his room, and occasionally lends it to me to take to shows to show children a sample of what automata they could make.
He considers himself famous now that he has a video on Youtube and has me monitor the number of views he receives. His video was done in one take. When I asked if he would like to make another, he replied, "No that one is good".
It was a great project to work on together.
