Our garden railroad, The South Bay Railway, was started in the fall of 2010. It is located at our weekend retreat on the shore of South Bay, Balsam Lake, Ontario. I have had indoor layouts, both HO and N scale in the past but I've always dreamed of moving outdoors and going with the larger sized equipment afforded by G scale. In the spring of 2011 the first train traversed the first of three layout loops. By the fall the complete layout of about 400 feet was in place. (See the layout on another web page!) Take a ride beside of the engineer of the below and then watch a collection of trains traverse the layout. After that watch Larry take a quick run back to the quarry to get another load of limestone landscape stone, watch Murray's Mill in operation and then follow the development of the South Bay Layout through photographs.

A Little South Bay Railway History
The South Bay Railway uses either a Revolution digital control system or an alternate analog LGB controller for several pieces of non-DCC equipment.
Purchasing my own new equipment and acquiring the private collection of Colin Marik of Thornhill, Ontario I have amassed a collection of over 100 pieces of rolling equipment.
Like most garden railroads he South Bay Railway continues to develop with a working mill, locomotive sound, miscellaneous accessories and replacing some of the poorer original plantings. Needless to say I've come much more proficient at gardening, more than i had imagined.
