Back to the automata this week. This is a flying character similar to one I saw on an Internet site. The original was called "migrating elephants". This interpretation was inspired by a a local airline, Porter, who uses a raccoon as a mascot. I tried it as precursor to maybe building one with multiple figures.
He needs a more work on his body and linkages. Time permitting, I hope to work on the drive mechanism today.
As hoped the mill building got installed this weekend and miniature truckloads of flour have begun to pour out of the mill. It has been a popular addition to the layout!
I originally made a touristy billboard for the railway by taking a photo of the waterfront, putting it behind glass and smearing silicone everywhere to seal it. It lasted about 2 months! So much for my waterproofing skills.
Pictured above the replacement was installed this weekend. This time I hand painted the scene and lettering and applied multiple coats of varnish. I'll see how long this version lasts. I like the nighttime look of a billboard on the railway when the sign is lit.
