Another snapshot of the current automata piece in progress. (Official subject matter yet to be revealed. Gotta love a mystery!)

Wilbur is sporting the Serengeti 2000 Gyrocopter to assist him on his travels. When completed he will float up and down beneath the spinning blades.

Gear, Gear, Me

This is the gearbox with anti-reversing pawl for the piece I currently have under construction. The gears are made from birch plywood, but have been stained for aesthetic reasons for this piece. It has a 8 to 1 input to primary output and has a secondary output at about 6.5 to 1.

I hope to spend a bunch of time in the shop over the next few days after spending a bunch of design time on the CAD system.

Another clue to the current work in progress, another component ready for finish assembly and paint. It goes along with the one from the last blog. The hinge pin at the rear of the jaw with be contoured prior to final assembly and paint. The upper jaw has a brass plate glued into the roof of the mouth so that the push rod which raises and lowers the jaw will slide easily.

For scale, thats a dime that this bad boy has stuffed into his mouth to prop it open. He has yet to have a name. If you have a suggestion send it along.
