I'm busy working on a commissioned piece for a client. Unfortunately this means I can't share photos of the work in progress since this is a gift and I don't want to let the cat out of the bag.
I'll be taking a short break from this over the holidays. I will find some other project to blog about to keep things interesting.

No this is not going to be the Blue Man Group! Often when designing I build prototypes of figures and mechanisms. In this case I need to configure the piece I'm working on onto a round base. This time I used foam to quickly shape and approximate the characters so that I could work a few things out in my mind before even committing too much time on CAD work.
I have completed a number of "Raving Fans" automata. They are all a variation on the same basic mechanism I had designed for those interested in trying to build a simple automata for themselves. The plan is configured to build the Hockey Fan, but includes suggestions and directions to make the variations shown here. Ultimately a carving can be down for the figure.
