Never underestimate the time it takes to finish little details and solve fit issues, oh and yes to have a life at the same time! It seems just as you set out some time for the final push something always gets in the way. As a result I haven't progressed as much as i had hoped. So... I am really locking myself in the shop for the next few days! I had always thought I would add fluting to the garbage can in the piece so it resembled the old galvanized garbage cans of my youth, the ones before plastic cans and recycling became mainstream. As I worked on the piece I was struggling with whether the detail was necessary. I waffled for a long time. Then I realized that if I did not do it I would always kick myself for the omission despite the fact that nobody else might notice. So here is the result: multiple layers of 1/16" plywood, the outermost scalloped, finished in aluminum paint. It looks more like a garbage can! I am now happy and hopefully this subtle feature will help the observers get into the piece.
