So I said that yesterday I expected to finish the assembly of the mechanism for "Schools Out" my current project underway. We'll it was warm and sunny, one of the nicer days of the summer, and after spending the morning in the shop I had to head outside. Instead of assembly I worked on the handle, carving and wood burning while sitting by the lake and on the patio. The handle was a possible prototype for the nine bouncing fish. I had never attempted scales on any previous fish so this was a first for me. Here is the fish after doing the pyrography.
The little guy is about 4-1/2" long. While not an exact replica he is meant to ressemble a small-mouthed bass. I omitted the chin and side fins as they would have been fragile and could interfere with cranking.
Here he is after some paint. He might be alittle bright but what the heck automata is supposed to be whimsical - right?
Automata is a creative blend of my life interests , engineering, art and woodworking.
