I was working in the shop the other day and I noticed what I though was a knot of sawdust sitting on the top plate of an automata piece I was working on. As I went to blow it off it moved, not because of any breeze, but because it started to walk away on its own!
As an idea of scale, those finger joints in the background are 3/8" wide. I figure that makes my mystery friend about 3/16 in diameter. Here is a closer view below. I do not know what kind of insect it was. Perhaps it is just a spider laden with fine sawdust. I guess I'll have to surf the net to try and find out.
Automata is a creative blend of my life interests , engineering, art and woodworking.
